Brahma Kamal (Epiphyllum oxypetalum), also known as the Queen of the night is a species of cactus/ succulent and one of the most cultivated species in the genus. E. oxypetalum. This plant is known to bloom rarely and only at night, and its flowers wilt before dawn.

Light and Temperature Requirements

It must be noted that Epiphyllum oxypetalum prefers bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight might scorch its leaves. So, you could place it around a south-facing window, where the plant can get indirect light for at least 6 hours a day.

Watering

Water the Brahma Kamal (Epiphyllum oxypetalum) plant regularly during summer. From spring through fall, water the plant every two weeks. Water the plant thoroughly until water drains from the bottom of the pot. Allow the soil to become slightly dry before you water the plant again.

Trellis:

Use a trellis or Moss pole as structural support on which the Brahma Kamal plant can climb, this will promote the Vertical growth of plant.

Care Tips:-

  1. Light:
    • Place your Brahma Kamal in bright, indirect light. It prefers dappled sunlight or filtered sunlight through a sheer curtain. Avoid direct sunlight, especially in the afternoon, as it can scorch the leaves.
  2. Watering:
    • Keep the soil evenly moist during the growing season (spring and summer), but avoid overwatering. Water thoroughly when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch.
  3. Soil:
    • Use a well-draining potting mix. A mix of peat moss, perlite, and orchid bark is suitable. Ensure that the pot has drainage holes to prevent waterlogging.
  4. Fertilization:
    • Feed your Brahma Kamal with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season. Reduce or stop fertilizing in the winter when the plant is dormant.
  5. Pruning:
    • Prune your Epiphyllum oxypetalum as needed to control its size and shape. Trim any damaged or yellowing leaves. Pruning can also help encourage bushier growth and more blooms.
