There is no denying that the last year has been extraordinarily odd and, at the best of times, unstable. Saying that, amidst all the uncertainty, there has been one special velvety, green guy that has, personally, kept me well-rooted. That being the Philodendron hederaceum var.

hederaceum, also known as the Philodendron Mican. This velvet leaf beauty originates from Central America and the Caribbean and is truly the gifts that keeps on giving. He prefers bright light but does extremely well in non-direct sunlight too.

Micans Care- How to Keep Its Velvet Leaves Healthy

I have never seen a philodendron micans at a local nursery, but it’s been on my plant wish list for a while (along with a rich rac cactus…stay tuned!). So I decided to jump on purchasing one from Nursery Nisarga I saw it listed for a good price from a highly reviewed shop. And it was a good decision.

Light for Micans

The philodendron enjoys bright to medium indirect light. Avoid prolonged periods of direct sunlight as it can burn the delicate leaves, causing discoloration and crispy edges. Increased light will cause the leaves to stay red/maroon, while lower light will result in leaves that are a deeper green color.

Water Schedule for Micans

Your Plant enjoys weekly watering sessions, allowing its soil to completely dry out between waterings to prevent overwatering and root rot. But during the winter months feel free to water your Philodendron less frequently because adjusting to let it dry out fully.
