Christmas Cactus, Thanksgiving Cactus Plant (Red, XL-Size)

This popular, winter-flowering houseplant makes a great addition to nearly any indoor plant collection. The Christmas cactus/ easter cactus is easily propagated by cutting a short Y-shaped segment from the stem tips. Make certain, however, that the cutting is taken from healthy plant foliage only. Plant the segment approximately a quarter of its length deep in slightly sandy soil. Moisten evenly and place the cutting in a well-lit area, staying away from any direct sunlight.

To root cuttings for new plants, cut back shoots from the tips, and cut at the second joint of each tip. The cutting should show signs of growth within a few weeks, at which time the plant can be transferred to another container, if desired, with a looser potting soil mix of compost, loam, and sand.

Care Tips:-

Light:
- Place your Christmas or Thanksgiving cactus in bright, indirect light. They thrive in moderate to low light conditions but may appreciate some morning sun. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.
Watering:
- Water your cactus when the top inch of the soil feels dry to the touch. Be careful not to overwater, as they are susceptible to root rot. Ensure that the pot has drainage holes.
Humidity:
- Maintain moderate humidity levels, especially during the dry winter months. You can increase humidity by placing a tray of water near the plant or using a humidity tray.
Potting Soil:
- Use a well-draining, slightly acidic potting mix. A mix formulated for cacti or succulents works well. You can also add some peat moss to the mix to increase acidity.
Fertilizing:
- Feed your cactus with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength during the growing season (spring and summer) every 4-6 weeks.
Pruning:
- Prune your cactus after flowering to encourage bushier growth. Remove any dead or leggy stems by cutting them back to a healthy segment.
