Description

Callisia Repens, Turtle Vine (Green) – Plant

Callisia Repens (Turtle Vine) is a creeper that has such beautiful, delicate-looking little leaves, which have a beautiful trailing habit on their green stems. They can grow up to 3m in length and width when given enough space – and they grow very fast, up to half a metre per year to be exact. It looks stunning left to trail over a statement pot or planter and it was an easy choice for your house plant.

And the best part of the Turtle Vine Plant is the evergreen beautiful creeper plant. It’s a very attractive plant. Callisia Repens, creeping herb with purplish stems, rooting at the nodes and often forming dense mats.

The lower surface of the leaf is a different colour. Colder temperatures have a tendency to bring out more differences. The blooms are small, and light in colour. It blossoms from late spring to early fall. Turtle Vine can be used in containers or pots, ground cover, and hanging baskets. It does not require a lot of maintenance however too much sunlight can change the leaves colour. Limited watering and fertilizer are enough to keep the plant healthy. Overwatering might kill the plant. But water regularly. Keep the soil moist.

Plant Requirement

Light & Position: Turtle Vine likes bright, indirect sunlight and you should avoid direct sun, especially in the summer. A North or East facing windowsill is an ideal space.

Soil: Callisia ‘Turtle’ loves moist soil. Once the pot begins to feel light when lifted, it’s time for another water, Regular mixes for container plants, cacti, succulents, herbs and vegetables can be used. If leaves and shoots are to be fed to turtles or birds, I would use vegetable or herbal soil. These mixes contain organic fertilizers.

Watering: Allow the soil to nearly dry between the waterings. And water sparingly if placed cool to temperate during winter. But avoid overwatering. Drying out for a short time will be tolerated.

Temperature: This plant prefers it on the cooler side – somewhere between 10-20 celsius – and an average amount of humidity.

Fertilizing: Use a balanced, liquid fertilizer monthly to feed the Creeping inch plant and meet its nutritional needs. You can use organic fertilizers for better results.
